Taylor & Lee

This ring will forever remain as a symbol of our love together and the journey we have been on together.

We first met around 15 years ago at a family party. We both love music and she loved the fact I was a guitarist and we immediately had something deep in common. Once we started talking we made each other laugh and discovered many other things in common. At the time we were both in different relationships so we remained friends. Around a year ago to the date, we reconnected having both found ourselves single and out of long term (10+ year) relationships and once we met up, it was like no time had passed and we got on like best friends all over again.

After reconnecting at 37 (Lou) and 38 (Lee), we couldn't believe how similar we were as people. We think the same, we like the same things, we enjoy the same music, TV and we are both musicians and singers. Everybody who see's us together in person notices a vibe between us. We are always laughing and joking, and we are all always smiling. Our relationship is so special because we support each other in everything we do and we are always together.

Our proposal was quite private, we were in the process of moving in together and we had a great weekend getting everything in order. At the same time, we had discussed the engagement for months before and we knew we wanted to be engaged but we didn't set a date or time. Once the ring arrived, I chose a moment that was special between us, just at home after our favourite song happened to come on the radio just by chance. It was a spontaneous proposal because the mood and timing just so happened to fit perfectly. A significant moment in our relationship would have been introducing each other to our parents. It was amazing to receive such a warm welcome from our parents and they all agreed we were great together and they gave us their best wishes.

We actually decided on the ring design together. I wanted to ensure this ring could be something she could cherish forever so months prior, we began looking at designs. She wanted to have a round diamond and she liked the vintage/classic design on the band with diamonds on the shank of the band. We looked online for weeks regarding different designs and she hand picked the ring her self. When we came to shopping at Abelini, it was just by chance the perfect ring design was available. We agreed to design the ring together but she didn't want to see the ring in person until it was time for the proposal.

There was no symbolic elements as such but she wanted a classic and vintage design because she admires vintage designs such as in furniture and dress outfits.

I was over the moon when the ring arrived. I showed my parents before I proposed and they agree it was beautiful. When I proposed to my partner she was amazing at the stunning detail and shine of the diamond. Under bright lights or sunshine, the diamond sparkles in fiery colours and she finds herself staring at the diamond as the light refracting off the diamond catches her eye.

This ring will forever remain as a symbol of our love together and the journey we have been on together. Two people who met at a young age who went on to live separate lives, only to reconnect years later and re-discover friendship and now love.

We are going to enjoy being engaged for now, we have many holiday plans for 2025 and we are looking forward to travelling as an engaged couple and celebrating our love together. Within the next year we will begin to look for our first home together and following this, we will begin to plan our wedding with the aim to be married within 2 or so years from now.

My advice for couples designing rings is to be open with each other about the things you are both looking for. Feel free to have open conversations about styles and designs long before you decide to propose. An engagement ring is a symbol of love and unity and a commitment to each other. I feel personally very proud that my fiancé was able to have an input on the ring design and it makes me very proud when I see her show it off to her friends and family who all agree, it's absolutely stunning.
